Weathering

Our weather is always ripping and tearing at the earth's crust. Rain, snow, wind, glaciers, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and waves are changing the surface of the earth. Volcanoes and earthquakes also change the crust of the earth. Even the roots of plants and trees break down the surface of the earth. It has taken millions of years to break down the rocks, by weathering, into soil. The soil provides a place for planets and trees to grow.
